Please take note of the following:

  • 1. Read day: eThekwini Electricity reads its meters on or about a specific date to ensure timeous reading and billing of the reading.
  • 2. Routine: Reads will still be done and Routine Reads will take precedence over reading submitted by customer.
  • 3. Reading of Meters: Whilst customers are encouraged to submit their own meter reading, eThekwini Electricity is compelled, by law, to obtain an official meter reading. Official meter readings taken either on a monthly or three monthly cycle. eThekwini Electricity looks forward to your cooperation in allowing its meter readers access to read the meter. It should be noted that refusal to allow officials access to the meter/equipment during reasonable hours is a breach of eThekwini Electricity supply Bylaws.
  • 4. Reading: be ideally sent on your Reading Day.
  • 5. Reading: may not necessarily be reflected on your next bill (dependant on the cut off date for billing).
  • 6. Identification of Meter Readers:eThekwini Electricity Meter readers and Meter reading Contractors can be identified by their uniforms: Light blue shirts and navy pants. eThekwini Electricity employees and contractors are required to display their eThekwini Electricity Identity cards on their person at all times. Contractor Identity cards bare the contractor details and an expiry date. Any person not able to produce a valid Identity card, or produces an expired card may be refused entry.
